Local SEO tips and SEO tricks to help your local business website rank better

What is basic SEO?

You don’t have to be an SEO whiz to get the basics sorted. In fact, some of the easiest things to get sorted can have the biggest impact. This includes:

Make sure each page has a Page Title and Meta Description

Read up on Page Titles and Meta Desctiptions and get them sorted on your website. Without them your website has a lesser chance of ranking well on Google and attracting clicks.

Give your images SEO optimised filenames

Help Google to understand your images by naming them with descriptive, lowercase words, separated by hyphens. So if it’s a PNG image of a cat, it would look something like this:

awesome-cat-picture.PNG

For businesses, try to sneak in your business name, location and industry along with what the image is about.

So if your roofing company in Leeds was called Barry's Roofing LTD and you were posting an image of a slate tile, your image file name would look something like this:

Make sure your images have ALT text and titles

ALT text helps visually impaired web users understand your images and Google will love you for using it. Read up on ALT text and titles here.

Make sure your ALT text and title isn't just your file name repeated, and try to write something unique that contains the words and phrases people might search for to find your business.
